wellness program

mission

the wellness yoga program provides medically sound, gently tailored, and accessible yoga classes to people living with chronic, progressive, or debilitating illnesses, and for whom yoga could complement their medical treatment. yoga induces the relaxation response, which puts the body into its healing state, and allows us to manage chronic pain and disease—related stress and symptoms. the wellness yoga program teaches skills for lifestyle change and provides tools for developing awareness, mindfulness, and inner health.

for children with down syndrome, cerebral palsy, hyperactivity, adhd, dyspraxia, sensory processing disorders, developmental delay, medical conditions and autism spectrum disorder.

yoga promotes an overall sense of well—being and provides a foundation for life. yoga means UNION: the bringing together of mind, body and spirit. every “BODY” can do yoga. it is safe, nurturing and individualized for the particular abilities of each student.

with the use of poses (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), singing (chanting) and eye exercises, yoga will:

  • increase motor skills
  • improve a student’s body awareness

  • calm a child’s body and develop self—regulation
  • increase concentration
