Dear Yoga Student,

Bill AbadieWe all have times when it is tough to keep up with our yoga practice.  Kids, work, errands, and things around the house all seem to compete for our time. But maintaining our yoga practice becomes even more important when life gets busy and hectic. Over the years, I have learned that my yoga practice helps to ground me.  It gives me the strength and fortitude to get through those busier than usual times.  It is those busy times when I need to practice the most.

I try to get on my mat most days, but it doesn't always work out that way.  There are days when too much is going on.  I can skip a day or two and not miss my mat too much, but if I skip many more days than that, I can sure tell.  My body begins to speak to me and I am less patient when things don't go my way.  I then remember why I have a regular practice.

The Sanskrit word abhyāsa is defined as constant and
determined study or practice.  Having a dedicated and regular yoga practice will change your life and transform your practice. Poses that were once difficult and challenging become fluid and simple. It will also help you get through those busier than usual times.

Most of us can't make the time to go to the studio everyday for a class, but by getting on our mat at home for even 30 minutes, we can maintain a regular practice (abhyāsa) whether it is a couple of times a week or everyday.  So I want to encourage you all to develop a regular practice - both at home and at the studio.  And remember that when life gets busy, that is when you probably need to make time for your practice the most.

Namaste,
Bill

From Sound To Silence
An evening of sacred chants and meditation with
the Art of Living singers

saturday, march 15
6-8pm
$10 suggested donation

The Art of Living singers are dedicated to uplifting the individual through the power of sound. Chanting has been a part of all spiritual traditions throughout the ages. Singing allows the five senses to dissolve into one and the mind to sink into itself. The Sanskrit chants resonate deeply within the ancient layers of our consciousness. While singing together, there is one rhythm as all minds become united. The oneness creates a profound energy that purifies and enlivens. Interweaving ancient, powerful sanskrit melodies in their "bhajans", the audience experiences a blissful sense of peace and well-being. Meditation is interwoven with chanting, leading participants into deep peace.

The Art of Living singers are volunteers and teachers with the Art of Living Foundation, a UN chartered NGO dedicated to bringing peace to society by bringing peace to the individual.

Spring is springing!  We've entered the season of Kapha, the dosha composed of earth and water. As Kapha emerges, we see the earth in one of her most generative phases as she
produces buds on trees and shoots from the underground. The Kapha phase of life is when our bodies are most generative - from birth through adolescence. While Kapha represents those aspects of us that are deeply grounded and innately fluid, the risk in too much Kapha is getting stuck, like "a stick in the mud".
