200 hour program

deepening: practicing svadhyaya, cultivating tapas & discovering shradda

(an opportunity for self-study, inquiry, discipline & faith)

Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School

teacher training program & year-long immersion for dedicated students

this program begins in september with a foundation in alignment principles and then builds on the skills and techniques for teaching over the course of 12 months.

there are two options for participation in deepening: practicing svhadhyaya, cultivating tapas and discovering shraddha. the teacher training track includes “teacher certification,” whereas the immersion track does not. If you pursue the teacher training track you will receive a certificate when you complete the curriculum requirements that you can submit to the yoga alliance in order to become a 200-hour certified yoga instructor.

teacher training and immersion students come together one saturday a month for yoga asana, philosophy, pranayama and meditation. in these 4 hour sessions, you’ll be deepening your own practice, observing and integrating alignment principles, discussing the practice of yoga on and off the mat and studying yoga philosophy through group format discussions.

teacher training students stay for an additional 2 hours to expand the immersion track into learning teaching techniques in observation, use of language, hands on adjustments and sequencing.

sarahjoy marsh, ma, ryt, program director, will be joined by the following members of the amrita teaching staff:

liz eisman, lmt
lani jelen, ryt
lynn morrison, lmt, ryt
nikki perry, ryt
emily soiney, pt, dpt, ryt

in addition, expect to work with visiting teachers with expertise in anatomy, yoga philosophy, meditation and psycohtherapy.

this training is a registered program with the yoga alliance. As stated above, completion of the certificate requirements qualifies you to apply for a 200-hour certification with the yoga alliance.

teacher training deadline for completion of requirements
teacher training students must complete all curriculum requirements, record them on the homework tracking sheet, and submit them to the amrita program manager within one year of the conclusion of their “training year” in order to be eligible for teacher certification. each “training year” officially concludes at the end of the august saturday session scheduled for that year (for example, if you started the program in september 2008, you would have until august 2010 to complete the requirements). As a teacher training student, we encourage you to complete as many of the curriculum requirements as possible during your training year, while you are being carried by the momentum of your year of deepening. past experience has proven that once you complete your training year, completing remaining curriculum requirements becomes increasingly difficult.

teacher training one-time extension
as a teacher training student, you may be granted a one-time extension for the completion of curriculum requirements. you must make a written request clearly stating the reason for the extension and how much additional time will be needed (up to one year). there is a one-time $75 administrative fee for extending the deadline, and you will need to complete any new curriculum requirements that may have been added for the following year’s training program.
